How We’re Investing in Our Crew: Why We Prioritise Training and Development

It’s no secret that at Alpha Crew, the training and development of our crew members is of the utmost importance to us. The reason why our team are award-winning is because their passion, dedication and hard-working attitude is underpinned by thorough and comprehensive training. Here’s why it’s so important and why it’s essential for crew companies to invest in their people.

Ongoing Investment in Professional Development

In 2016, we developed our in-house training scheme whereby we spend approximately £600 on training, per employee. We prioritise the development of our team through this comprehensive programme - recruits complete sessions on safety, communication, and crew responsibilities, with practical training in equipment handling, loading/unloading, and tool use. We ensure all our new recruits are inducted into the company with information about our work ethic, crew rules and culture. This is why we call our team a ‘family’ - because from day one, that’s exactly what we are. All senior members of staff are first-aid trained, and we regularly offer additional free courses on forklift training, MUPE, sound and lighting not only so that our crew members remain fully qualified, but so that we can keep up with the industry who are favouring multifaceted crew.

The Numbers

The proof is in the pudding. Since January this year, we have trained 205 crew members across 15 training days, delivering a total of 120 hours of development in 9 different training areas. These sessions cover a wide range of essential skills, including:

  • IOSH Training

  • First Aid Training

  • Traffic Marshal Training

  • Working at Heights / Harness Training

  • Plant Training (Forklift, Telehandler, IPAF)

  • Plant Training (Refresher Session)

  • Sound Training

  • Fire Marshal Training

  • Ground Rigger Training

What our Training Covers

Our training programme ensures that our crew can work confidently and safely, on-site and alongside contractors and around the general public. It allows them to manage emergencies, overcome challenges on the job, and to communicate effectively in order to resolve these.

The in-house programme includes but is not limited to; crew responsibilities, communication skills, working safely and efficiently, manual handling, fire safety, team building, working at height, use of PPE, practical training (loading/unloading, tool use, basic equipment) and more. To reinforce our commitment to safety and professionalism, we’ve also introduced DBS checks for all full-time UK crew. This sets us apart from our competitors, and is why we are an award-winning crew company.

We are also able to provide additional crew training for our clients if requested - for example if a job requires a certain skill level or qualification that our team did not already have. This enables us to work on a wide variety of jobs in a range of industries, and build long and lasting relationships with our valued clients.

Advanced and Specialist Training

For those bigger jobs that require additional expertise, we also offer advanced and specialist training and certifications for our crew members. These higher-level skills include but are not limited to:

It is also really important to keep senior staff first-aid trained and regularly refreshing their certifications in order to keep up with the latest industry standards and regulations.

Why it Matters

Our investment into training translates to safer, more efficient work on site, better communication and teamwork, and highly skilled, reliable and professional crew who deliver unparalleled excellence. The comprehensive approach to training that we take ensures that every crew member - from new starters to the senior team - have the knowledge and skills to provide exceptional service and to represent our company values and uphold our reputation.

Join our Team

Consistent and thorough training and development aren’t a one-off, they’re part of our DNA as a company. This commitment raises the bar for our crew and our clients. If you have experience in events, logistics and/or skilled labour and are punctual, 100% reliable, physically fit, hardworking and prepared to work unsociable hours, we would love to hear from you.
